On the Road Next Step Experiences!
Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington (SMGW) shares information about its Next Step Program in a one-hour “come and see” event called the Next Step Experience, which is held monthly in one of our offices. Attendees hear from people whose lives have been touched by the Next Step Program - generally a program participant, a volunteer and either a senior staffer or board member - and tour the program office.
An “on-the-road” Next Step Experience can also be an effective way to share information with members of partner parishes and other organizations. These events are held at the parish/organization’s location. The agenda is adapted to meet the needs and time constraints of the group, making it ideal for adult forums on Sunday morning, committee gatherings or at other times. Designed to give attendees a real feel for the impact Samaritan Ministry’s Next Step Program has on people’s lives, the program may include, specifics about SMGW and the Next Step Program including a talk by a program participant, plans for the future, opportunities to volunteer or become involved in other ways, and a short audio or video presentation.
When held at a partner parish, the event is often hosted by the partner parish’s SMGW representative or a member of the parish’s outreach/mission group who is knowledgeable about SMGW’s work. The host advertises the event to parishioners, welcomes attendees, helps with introductions, manages on-site logistics, and, when possible, arranges transportation for the Next Step Program participant. The host also makes follow up calls to find out what people thought of the event or if they would like additional information.
If you’d like to schedule an on-the-road Next Step Experience or attend a regularly scheduled event at one of our offices, please contact Samaritan Ministry’s Development Coordinator, Mary Belknap, at 202-722-2280 or by email at mbelknap@samaritanministry.org.
