The Help the Homeless Program and Walkathon is a participatory fundraising event held in cooperation with The Fannie Mae Foundation presents a wonderful opportunity to get young people, as well as adults, involved in the fight against homelessness.  Last year, the entire spectrum of Help the Homeless activities raised almost 10% of Samaritan Ministry’s entire annual budget! Samaritan Ministry’s Help the Homeless Program is a wonderful way to get young people and adults involved in the fight against homelessness.

What do you think might happen if homelessness in the Washington metropolitan area ended tonight today? It might surprise you to discover that the biggest challenges would occur out of sight. Thousands of children would have a place of their own to sleep (one-third of the area’s 12,000 homeless are children) and would return to school (homelessness is one reason many children don’t attend school). Thousands of families could stay together in their own home and keep working. (Half of the area’s homeless are families and one-third of the homeless are employed.) And thousands of families who are at risk of losing their homes would be rescued from the fear and hopelessness.

As a beneficiary organization, The Help the Homeless Program and Walkathon helped Samaritan Ministry’s Next Step Program by raising more than 10% of our entire annual budget last year!
